9 DAYS INNER MONGOLIA’S WILDEST FRONTIER
Bingshanliang, Laozhanggou, Saihanba Wulan Butong, Hexingten Qi, Hunshandake Sands, Zhangjiakou, Ulan Qab & Kubuqi Desert
Outdoor & Adventure, Nature & Wildlife
Discover some of Inner Mongolia’s wildest corners. The unique geographical location of Hexingten National Geopark has created a magical natural landscape, including the formation of “ice stone forest” and Hunshandake Sandy Land in the last century.
The cross-country journey takes you through the unusual road, visiting the vast grassland of Saihanba Wulan Butong, the alien-like landscape of Ulanda Volcano before ending at a dreamy resort for photography lovers.
Drive 222km/4h to Bingshanliang, the first peak of Fengning Bashang with tall mountains and snaking rivers. Continue via the extreme cross-country resort of Laozhanggou with overlapping mountains, valleys and a small stream in the centre. Drive 72km/1.5h to Fengning Bashang to check in.
We drive 92km/1.5h to Duolun, known as “Beijing’s Back Garden”. Continue 101km/2.5h to Saihanba Ulan Butong Grassland, which was the Qing Dynasty Royal Mulan paddock area. Check into your scenic off-the-beaten hotel and participate in the evening bonfire party, Mongolian folk song and dance performance, carnivals and fireworks.
Today, we drive 117km/2h45m via unique section of the grassland characterized with hilly landforms to your hot spring hotel at Hexingten Qi. In the afternoon, visit Keshiketen World Geopark and the “Ice Stone Forest” formed by the erosion of glacier melt water.
After a morning visit to Dalinor Lake, known as “the third Swan Lake in China”, we drive 300km/4h to Hunshandake sandy land. There are many small lakes, Shuipaozi and Sand Springs in the sandy land. Visit the herdsmen’s homes to experience the primitive grassland customs: prepare for grassland camping, make bonfires, barbecue and catch Amur ide fishes.
Today’s journey brings us further through the wilderness of remote Inner Mongolia, taking about 6h through picturesque sand and beautiful scenery before arriving Zhangjiakou.
We drive 241km/2.5h to Ulanqabchahar via Ulan Hada Volcanic Geopark with surreal landscapes which feel like walking on an alien planet. In the afternoon, drive 107km/1h to Ulanqab and check in at your hotel.
We drive 380 km or about 4 hours to Kubuqi Desert, one of the seventh largest deserts in China. The scenery here is magnificent and unique. Check in Xiangshawan Lotus Hotel or Qixing Lake Hotel, then open the desert tour and enjoy the hotel facilities in the afternoon.
Hop on a 4WD off-road journey through Kubuqi Desert to explore the century-old charm of Xiangshawan with sandboarding, surfing and desert activities. If you are interested, you can add a night of desert camping.
We drive 80km/1.5h to Baotou. Enjoy free time before transferring to the airport for your flight home.
