Upon arrival in Hiroshima Airport, you would be met and transferred to Ikuchi island.
Explore the Kousanji Temple complex, founded in 1936 by industrialist Kozo Kosanji, a pioneer of early 20th-century French-style welding techniques, as a tribute to his late mother. Built over more than 30 years, the complex features National Tangible Cultural Properties and significant works of art. A highlight is The Hill of Hope, a 5,000㎡ marble garden designed by sculptor Itto Kuetani. Created over 16 years using around 3,000 tons of Carrara marble, it is a breathtaking masterpiece.
Enjoy a scenic drive along the Nishi-Seto Expressway, crossing a few islands before arriving in Imabari City. Visit Imabari Castle, built in 1604 by master architect Todo Takatora, celebrated for its rare seawater-filled moat, strategic coastal location, and impressive stone walls that blend historical ingenuity with natural beauty.
Then, step into the unique Towel Museum to discover the meticulous towel-making process and admire interesting works of art crafted from towel materials.
Afterwards, return to the ryokan and spend the rest of the day at leisure.
After checking out from your ryokan, head to the Shinshoji Zen and Garden Museum on your way to Bella Vista Marina, where you will embark on your four-day voyage on guntû.
Guntû roams across Setouchi, as people call the archipelago of small islands in western Japan woven together by the calm waters of the Seto Inland Sea. Setouchi is a beautiful and mysterious world unto itself, with more than 700 islands floating in a seascape of 23,000 square kilometers and 7,000 kilometers of shoreline.
Indulge in Japanese delicacies onboard while soaking in views of the picturesque Setouchi.
* Off-ship excursion to be announced.
Today, continue sailing on the Seto Inland Sea. Don’t miss out on a Wagashi experience onboard, where an artisan will prepare and serve seasonal Japanese sweets right before your eyes.
* Off-ship excursion to be announced.
The guntû ship will disembark at Bella Vista Marina, where you would be met and transferred to Hiroshima Airport for your onward journey. Enroute, enjoy sightseeing at the Takehara Townscape Preservation Area, where the town’s Edo-period legacy flourished through salt and sake production.
Nestled along the coast and bordered by bamboo forests, Takehara’s quaint neighborhoods invite you to stroll through streets that whisper stories of a bygone era. Visit the Former Matsuzaka Family Residence, a beautifully preserved estate showcasing the elegant design and craftsmanship of the Edo period (1603-1868), offering a glimpse into the refined lifestyle of the Matsuzaka family. Consider a short climb to the Saiho-ji Temple Complex atop a hill, offering panoramic views of the historic town.
