Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Museum
The museum’s standout exhibit features well-preserved corpses interred in ancient times. These bodies differ significantly from the embalmed mummies of Egypt, as they were naturally desiccated by the environment. Among them, the most renowned is the “Loulan Beauty,” dating back approximately 4,000 years.
Picturesque Tianchi Lake
Today, we devote the entire day to exploring Tianchi Lake, also known as Yaochi (Jade Pool). This renowned attraction of Xinjiang is a half-moon alpine lake nestled on the northern slopes of Bogda Peak in the Tianshan Mountains. Immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the surroundings and enjoy some hiking time amidst this picturesque landscape.
Flight: Urumqi to Koktokay
After breakfast, check out and transfer to airport and take a flight to Koktokay.

Koktokay National Geological Park
Venture into the Koktokay National Geological Park, where we will marvel at the grassland mountain gorges nestled near the outer Mongolian border. Delve deep into the heart of the park to discover the iconic Big Black Stone Rock, revered as a sacred mountain and symbolic centerpiece of the Koktokay gorges. Exiting the mountain, we will visit a prominent metallurgic mine and explore the renowned geological site museum, boasting the discovery of an impressive array of minerals. With over 146 metals known worldwide, this site has unearthed an astounding 86 varieties.
Car Transfer: Koktokay to Burjin
Our journey continues with a drive to Burjin (approx 460km/7h).
Highlights of Burjin
We will visit the breathtaking Multi-Colour Bay, whose vibrant hues are particularly stunning against the backdrop of the setting sun. As evening descends, we will indulge in the delicacies of cold-water fish sourced from the Erith River, originating from the Altay region and flowing through Burjin into the border of Kazakhstan.
Car Transfer: Burjin to Hemu with Sightseeing
Embark on a scenic overland drive (approx 2.5h) to reach Hemu Village within the Kanas Nature Reserve area.
Along the route, pass by the Arghongat ancient stone stele, a historic nomadic monument commemorating the tribes of the region. Visit a Kazak village and immerse in the local culture, experiencing activities such as setting up felt yurts and making yogurt. Lunch will be served at a village restaurant.
Tuva Minority Village
Surrounded by lush birch trees, verdant hills, and the enchanting atmosphere of traditional folk life, Hemu Village is revered as one of the most beautiful villages in China, as well as the oldest and most-well-preserved Tuva minority village in China, boasting several hundred years of history. Upon arrival, we will take leisurely strolls through the village, characterized by its charming wooden huts, picturesque birch forests, and the gentle flow of the Hemu River.
If you are energetic and if time permits, we can embark on a hike to the summit of a nearby hill, offering breathtaking views of the village against the backdrop of the setting sun.
Hemu Sunrise & Mount Altay
Witness the breathtaking sunrise over Hemu Village before enjoying breakfast. Embark on an overland drive (approx. 80km/2h) to the Nature Resort Panoramic Scenic Site, located at the foot of Mount Altay near the Kazakhstan border in the northeastern part of the region.
Into the Kanas Lake
Upon arrival at Jiadengyu, the resort area for Kanas Lake, you will be provided with a private VIP shuttle car to transport you to Kanas Lake. Here, take a boat tour of the lake and hike around its picturesque shores. You may explore the three bays of Kanas Lake: Holy Spring Bay, Moon Bay, and Dragon Bay.
Fish Viewing Pavilion
Visit the Fish Viewing Pavilion. lt is known for its stunning panoramic views of the entire lake and the opportunity to observe a variety of fish species in their natural habitat.
Tuwa Village Immersion
Visit TUWA Village, home to the Turkic Mongol tribe, to experience their unique culture and way of life, before returning to your hotel for a well-deserved rest.
Car Transfer: Kanas to Kuitun via Urho
From Kanas, we proceed approx. 180km/2.5h to Burjin and stop for lunch. The adventure continues with another overland drive (approx.240km/3h) via Gurbantunggut Desert to reach Urho Ghost City, where geological erosion has sculpted castles and temples from the landscape. As the wind sweeps through the area, the rough stones and hummocks amplify the sound, creating an eerie moan that resonates across the ghost city.
Following the exploration of Urho Ghost City, continue to Kuitun City (approx. 240km/3h) to your hotel for the night.
Car Transfer: Kuitun to Wenquan via Sayram Lake
Check out and embark on a scenic drive to Sayram Lake (approx. 305km/3h). After lunch, continue to Wenquan (approx. 55km/1.5h) and check in to your hotel.
Sayram Lake
Situated at an elevation of 2,073 meters above sea level, Sayram Lake is designated as a provincial multi-functional comprehensive scenic spot, offering diverse and stunning views throughout the year.
Hidden Mountain Immersion
After breakfast, depart from the campsite for an exciting journey through hidden landscapes and seek out wildlife amidst stunning scenery. The route winds through poplar valleys, border valleys, and past glaciers and snow-capped mountains, offering a feast for the senses.
Upon reaching your destination, savour an outdoor luxury lunch amidst the picturesque glacier before returning to the campsite for a well-deserved rest. If time permits, you are welcome to participate in various outdoor activities such as equestrian experiences, grassland archery, or cross-country motorcycle rides. You will also enjoy an afternoon tea in a virgin forest.
