7 DAYS ICELAND SUMMER ADVENTURE
Reykjavik, Thingvellir, Hella, Dorsmork & Skaftafell
Family Travel
A land of cinematic beauty – Iceland is blessed with dramatic landscapes full of immense glaciers, black-sand beaches, wiggling fjords, volcanoes and geothermal pools.
The southern coast of Iceland is a haven for soft-adventure enthusiasts looking for diverse adrenaline-pumping experiences while soaking in the stunning vistas of pristine wilderness.
The trip is most ideally done from June to August.
Upon arrival at Keflavik International Airport, you will be picked up by private guide and transfer to Reykjavik. Visit Reykjavik’s spectacular coastline and harbour area including Harpa, Höfdi house (site of the “end of the cold war” meeting in 1986) and The Pearl. We also visit Reykjavik’s colourful old quarter with its quaint wooden houses and narrow streets. You will check into your hotel after the tour.
Ever wondered how the inside of a volcano looks inside? Drive 30km from Reykjavik followed by an easy hike of around 50 minutes before you reach the crater. Erupting 4,000 years ago, you will descend 120m from the top crater of Thrihnukagigur volcano into the magma chamber via a cable lift (on shared basis with specialist guides). The duration of the tour is 5-6 hours, with 40 minutes inside the volcano.
This afternoon, relax around 3 hours in the Blue Lagoon (comfort package), a unique spa of outdoor geothermal hot water.
Visit Thingvellir National Park (UNESCO), one of the few places in the world where you can see the effects of the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates pulling apart.
At Silfra, you will snorkel between two continents while the deep fissure gives you a feeling of being weightless as you float across the lazy current (Optional: Certified divers can choose to dive instead.)
Continue to Geysir hot spring area, bubbling with multi-coloured mud pools, hissing steam vents and primitive plants. See Gullfoss, the “Golden Falls” where you can witness white water thundering 32 meters down to an impressive canyon.
Journey deep into Thorsmork Canyon on a super jeep. Forging through rugged rivers, admire the sights of glacier tongues pitted with volcanic ash spilling down over jagged mountain peaks.
Optional: Helicopter ride to Eyjafjallajökull Volcano’s top crater. See the aftermath of the 2010 eruption that melted a hole in the glacier. We will also see Gígjökull which was cut in half by the hot lava and stop at the second eruption site, Fimmvörðuháls, to enjoy the view.
Fenced in between the Atlantic Ocean in the South, a big ice cap to the North as well as two big glacier rivers to the East and West, the South Coast is an area of bewitching beauty.
Visit Reynisfjara black sand beach with its signature rock formations, Vík í Mýrdal village signposted by a quaint church facing the glorious ocean, as well as the 120-metre-high natural arch of Dyrhólaey to observe puffins in their natural habitat.
Visit two of Iceland’s most impressive waterfalls, Seljalandsfoss whose thundering waters flow from the Eyjafjallajökull glacier, as well as Skógafoss where you’ll find a winding staircase with a bird’s eye view from the top. In the afternoon, we continue to Skaftafell before heading to your hotel to rest.
Go on a 2.5-hour Ingólfshöfði tractor tour (shared basis) to see the puffins. You will hike 1.5 hours through a steep sand slope, rocky terrain and down to flat grass land.
Created by the melting of Europe’s biggest glacier, enjoy a 45-minute Jökulsárlón zodiac cruise (shared basis). Giant icebergs floating in the aqua-blue lagoon is a sight you’ll never forget!
In the afternoon you’ll fly back to Reykjavík from Höfn.
Fly Hofn / Reykjavik Eagle Air 1845/1945 – Mon/Wed/Thu/Fri (1h)
1600/1700 – Sun (1h)
Upon arrival, transfer to hotel and enjoy rest of the evening free at leisure.
Head to a local ranch for a 1.5-2 hour guided horseback ride (shared basis, no experience required) on an Icelandic horse, a pure breed brought here by Viking settlers over 1,000 years ago. Return to Reykjavik where you have time to enjoy lunch and do some shopping, before transferring back to Keflavik Airport.
