8 DAYS PANORAMA OF INDIA – MAHARAJAS’ EXPRESS
Delhi, Jaipur, Ranthambore, Fatehpur Sikri, Agra, Orchha, Khajuraho & Vanarasi
History & Culture, Rail Journeys
For a country as vast as India, long journeys of two weeks or more are typically unavoidable, but this can be reduced by half aboard the regal Maharajas’ Express, designed after the opulence of Indian royalties.
Starting from the iconic Golden Triangle, this journey then ventures inland into the Heart of India. Marvel at the under-visited gems such as Orchha monuments and the Kama Sutra-inspired temples of Khajuraho. Finally, we conclude at India’s spiritual hub in Varanasi.
Arriving into Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, transfer to your hotel to rest. For those with time, we recommend extending your time to tour Delhi’s UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
After checking in 7.30am at Delhi Safdurjung Railway Station, embark on your train to Jaipur (UNESCO). Proceed to the City Palace, the royal family’s former residence, followed by dinner at Rambagh Palace Hotel.
Start the morning with a visit to Amber Fort, known for its romantic Rajasthani palace and time-ravaged walls. After lunch onboard the train, enjoy optional local city tour or spa at a hotel.
Rise early at 6am for a safari game drive at Ranthambore National Park. Thereafter, we proceed to the deserted erstwhile Mughal capital of Fatehpur Sikri (UNESCO).
Rise early at 6.30am to visit Taj Mahal (UNESCO) before most of the crowd arrives, followed by champagne breakfast at Taj Khema. After lunch onboard, enjoy optional activities visiting Agra Fort (UNESCO), or local city tour, or Mohabbat the Taj live dance show, or spa at a hotel.
Deboard 7am at Jhansi for road transfer to Orchha, where you will enjoy fort and village tour by tuk-tuk. After lunch onboard, we arrive late afternoon at Khajuraho (UNESCO), known for its erotic Kama Sutra temples. You will visit the Western Group of Temples, followed by optional Light and Sound Show, or Dances of India Show, or spa at a hotel.
You will arrive this afternoon at Varanasi, a sacred spiritual hub for Hinduism, Jainism and Buddhism by the banks of Ganges River. Visit the site where Gautama Buddha taught his first Dharma at Sarnath ruins, a silk weaving centre and hop on a Ganges boat ride to witness the evening Aarti ceremony. Conclude with an exclusive vegetarian dinner with Kathak Dance at Brij Rama Palace.
Disembarking the train in late afternoon, we will transfer to the airport for your flight home or onwards journey. We recommend extension to the blue city of Jodhpur and the lake city of Udaipur.
