Located in the heart of the Balkan peninsula, Serbia struggled after the collapse of Yugoslavia but has since build an identity for itself. Build on the confluence of two rivers, Belgrade is fast earning a reputation as the coolest cities in Europe and is a must for any visit to Serbia. The capital city reverberates a hippy edge, with a wide range of bars and restaurants and some of the best nightlife in Eastern Europe. Venture deeper and you will find the world’s largest Eastern Orthodox church intertwined with Ottoman relics and socialist modernist monoliths.
Not far from Belgrade is Serbia’s second sassy city – Novi Sad is lively and energetic and hosts the world-famous EXIT music festival. It is also a gem for Art Nouveau architecture, but the cradle of Serbia sits at the UNESCO World Heritage sites of Studenica Monastery.
Spring (Apr-June) and autumn (Sep-Oct) are the best time to visit Serbia. Summer (Jul-Aug) is the busiest time but the weather may be too hot for our comfort.
